McDermott has successfully completed transportation, installation and commissioning activities ahead of schedule for the Kikeh subsea gas lift project, located in deep waters off Malaysia. The operation, contracted to PTTEP Sabah Oil Limited, highlights the company’s efficiency and capability in developing offshore energy infrastructure .
Technical progress on Malaysian offshore project
The project involved the replacement of a gas riser, the installation of a new section of dynamic riser, a flowline and two thermoplastic composite pipe bridges, as mentioned in the contract . All of this at depths close to 1,400 metres, which highlights the level of complexity and technical specialisation required.
According to McDermott, the ahead-of-schedule performance was made possible by detailed planning, rigorous safety protocols and high-level engineering work. The Kuala Lumpur-based company mobilised its resources efficiently, ensuring that operations were carried out smoothly.
Impact on gas production
The Kikeh field, located about 120 kilometres northwest of Labuan Island, is one of the most important gas production facilities in the region.
