Petronas, a Malaysian state-owned company, is studying oil and gas exploration projects in Bolivia, the South American country’s state oil company, YPFB, has said.
The presidents of both companies met in Brazil during the Rio Oil and Gas conference, held last September in Rio de Janeiro. The meeting was part of the company’s efforts to attract international associations, YPFB president Armin Dorgathen Tapia said.
“We talked with the Petronas executive about opportunities in exploration and investment projects in Bolivia. This meeting coincides with the internationalization plans of YPFB”, pointed out the executive of the Bolivian state oil company, after holding a meeting with his counterpart, Omar Nizar, in the context of his participation in the twentieth edition of the Congress “Río Oil and Gas 2022 ” that was developed in Brazil.
Considering that YPFB has plans to expand its business internationally, Dorgathen plans other meetings with executives from companies in the hydrocarbon sector specializing in the natural gas value chain.
Malaysian Petronas owns 103 subsidiaries and partially owns another 19. In association with 55 companies, together they form the Petronas Group, it is involved in various oil and gas based activities with business interests in 35 countries. It is the third global producer of liquefied natural gas (LNG) and has been in operation since August 1974.
