Magnon Green Energy , a subsidiary of the Ence Group , has announced a project to convert its Mérida plant into a reference centre for the production of renewable fuels. The company aims to promote the capture and valorisation of biogenic CO₂ generated at its facilities.
Renewable fuel production in Merida
At its event, the company received a visit from important regional authorities, including Víctor Gerardo del Moral, Secretary General of Sustainable Development of the Regional Government of Extremadura, Manuel González Ramírez, Head of Energy Generation Service, and Ángel Sánchez García, Coordinator of Sustainable Development and Climate Change. At this meeting, the details of the project that seeks to transform the current biomass plant into a true paradigm of circular economy were presented.
The Ence Group , through Magnon , produces more than four million tons of biogenic CO₂ per year, of which approximately 250,000 tons come from the Mérida plant, as a benchmark for renewable energy.
This gas, derived from agroforestry waste, will be used in the production of green methanol , a sustainable alternative to grey methanol of fossil origin. In addition, green methanol is an efficient solution for the decarbonisation of sectors that are difficult to electrify, such as aeronautics and maritime.
