Lightsource bp announces solar power project in Taiwan

This capital injection will allow construction to be completed by 2026, enabling Taiwan to advance its clean energy strategy.

The companies Lightsource bp and Star Trade have signed a power purchase agreement(PPA) to supply electricity from their Budai solar power project, a 115 MWp plant located in Chiayi County, Taiwan.

The Budai development is characterized by its scale and innovative approach: integrating solar energy with aquaculture activities. This initiative seeks to demonstrate the viability of solar-fishery hybrid systems as a sustainable alternative for economic sectors in Asia-Pacific.

Star Trade, a subsidiary of HD Renewable Energy Group and one of the largest energy traders in Taiwan, will guarantee the total purchase of the energy generated by the plant. In addition, its market position allows it to distribute renewable energy to sectors such as semiconductors, manufacturing and financial services.

The project has secured financing of approximately 6 billion Taiwanese dollars, backed by a consortium of local and international banks. With an active portfolio in Australia, New Zealand and South Korea, Lightsource bp is expanding its presence in Asia-Pacific with solutions tailored to local markets.
