The Janaúba Solar Complex , developed by Elera Renováveis in Brazil, has reached a new stage in its expansion with the commercial start-up of its final phase, known as Irapuru. This complex is consolidated as the largest photovoltaic installation in the southern hemisphere and the Americas, with a total installed capacity of 1,617 MWp.

The energy generated by the complex is equivalent to the annual residential consumption of approximately 1.2 million people, contributing to Brazil’s energy transition. In addition, it is estimated that it will avoid the emission of 850,000 tons of CO₂ per year, reaffirming its commitment to sustainability and reducing its carbon footprint.
The complex includes 27 solar parks covering an area of 3,800 hectares. Its construction, which began in 2021, involved an investment of 5 billion Brazilian reals ( 820 million dollars ), supported in part by the National Bank for Economic and Social Development (BNDES). This financing covered 72% of the planned investment, allowing the implementation of advanced solar tracking systems supplied by the American company Nextracker.
Elera has stood out for completing the project ahead of schedule, applying good practices that now serve as a model for other renewable energy initiatives. This achievement reflects the team’s ability to overcome challenges and lead the way towards a more efficient energy matrix.
