Kongsberg Maritime has secured a key contract with shipowner DOF to supply a comprehensive equipment package for a new Offshore Support Vessel (OSV). The vessel, being built at the CRIST shipyard in Gdynia, Poland, is 110 meters long and has a capacity for 164 people. Designed by MMC Ship Design, the vessel will operate in the harsh waters of Newfoundland, where extreme weather conditions are a constant challenge.

New technology for offshore vessels

The vessel will be equipped with innovative Kongsberg Maritime systems, including a DC switchboard, a hybrid battery system , main power generators, and a propulsion induction motor. One highlight is the direct current (DC) electrical system, which offers several advantages over traditional alternating current (AC) systems.

These advantages include increased energy efficiency, reduced space and weight requirements, and improved power quality, making it an ideal choice for modern offshore vessels focused on sustainability and operational efficiency.

DOF will have a guaranteed design

Kongsberg Maritime ‘s battery hybrid propulsion system, consisting of two 1 MWh battery packs, will ensure maximum operational efficiency for the vessel . With this advanced technology, the new ship is expected to achieve fuel savings of up to 35% compared to similar vessels.

In addition, DOF has selected other advanced technologies from Kongsberg Maritime, including the K-Pos (DP-3) dynamic positioning system , to enhance navigation and control during offshore operations.
