Komatsu North America has joined forces with Pronto to introduce an autonomous transportation system tailored for quarry-sized trucks to the U.S. market. The proposal, called Komatsu Smart Quarry Autonomous, integrates Komatsu ‘s hardware and support network with Pronto’s autonomous driving platform.

The implementation of autonomy for trucks

This system allows modernize existing trucks or acquire new or acquire new units with integrated equipment, operating 24 hours a day with minimal human intervention. This translates into removing drivers from risk areas and ensuring more consistent transport cycles, with improvements in fuel consumption and the elimination of downtime.

The solution uses artificial intelligence and a robust sensor suite to interpret the environment and execute haul routes safely. In addition, its design optimizes the cost and complexity of implementing autonomy in mines, offering a scalable approach that adapts to operations of different sizes.

The system is complemented by the Smart Quarry Site fleet management and analysis platform, which provides real-time data to optimize the overall operation. Operators gain centralized control, performance reporting and tools for more accurate decision making.
