Investcorp to drive expansion of Duqm port in Oman

The expansion of the port will improve services and capabilities to handle general cargo, containers, dry and liquid bulk.

Investcorp has confirmed its participation in a project to expand the port of Duqm in Oman. Through its Investcorp Aberdeen Infrastructure Partners(AIIP) platform, the group will provide capital to develop maritime infrastructure, in collaboration with Port of Duqm Company and the CAP INFRA consortium, which includes DEME Group and the Port of Antwerp Bruges.

An investment aligned with Duqm port expansion

This commitment was valued at US$550 million, strengthening the port as an Indian Ocean logistics hub , and registering as AIIP’s fourth major project in the MENA region. In addition, the new infrastructure is expected to include dredging and the construction of a dock for a low-emission industrial plant.

The project contemplates the installation of a steel plant with hydrogen technology. hydrogen technology to produce steel with a low carbon footprint. This initiative will be located within the Duqm Special Economic Zone and represents a firm step towards the goal of climate neutrality that Oman aims to achieve by 2050 under its Vision 2040.

The expansion of the port will enhance its capacity to handle general cargo, containers, dry and liquid bulk, consolidating its role as a transit point between Asia, Europe and Africa. It also strengthens Oman’s strategy of economic diversification through resilient infrastructure.

The project was awarded to AIIP after a competitive process with four other parties. For Investcorp, this partnership represents a concrete way to strengthen long-term alliances with key players in the region. The operation has been celebrated by the port authorities and by the international partners, who highlight the commitment to an efficient and sustainable port infrastructure.
