New power plants in Peru!

The Ministry of Energy and Mines (Minem) has reported that there are currently four power plant projects with renewable energy sources under construction in the country. These projects represent an investment that exceeds 841 million dollars and will contribute a total capacity of 561.4 MW to the National Interconnected Electric System (SEIN).

As indicated by the Ministry, these facilities are expected to start operating in the period between 2023 and 2027 in specific regions such as Ica, Moquegua and Puno. These plants will contribute to increasing the share of non-conventional renewable energy in Peru’s energy matrix and will play an important role in achieving national greenhouse gas emission reduction targets.

Among these mentioned projects, the San Gabán Hydroelectric Power Plant in Puno stands out, with a total investment of 448 million dollars and an installed capacity of 205.8 MW. It is followed by the San Juan de Marcona Wind Farm in Ica , whose global investment is 164 million dollars and will have an installed capacity of 131.1 MW.

This list also includes the Wayra Extension Wind Power Plant in Ica , whose construction will require an investment of more than 148 million dollars. This plant is expected to have an installed capacity of 108 MW when it comes into operation.

Finally, it is worth mentioning the Clemesí Wind Power Plant in Moquegua , with an investment of more than 80 million dollars and an installed capacity of 116.5 MW.

The Ministry of Energy and Mines (Minem) highlights that these projects under construction contribute significantly to strengthening national energy security, generating job opportunities in various regions and making the most of the renewable resources available in Peru.

These renewable energy plants join the recently inaugurated Punta Lomitas Wind Power Plant in the Ica region , which is already operating commercially and is considered the largest in the country. With an expansion of 36.4 MW, this plant has a total capacity of 296.4 MW and required a total investment of 300 million dollars.

Together, the power generated by these 5 plants will amount to 821.4 MW and will be integrated into the National Interconnected Electric System (SEIN).
