Invenergy, a US multinational power generation development and operations company, announced its first green hydrogen project ‘Sauk Valley Hydrogen’, a 2-hectare project that will use the Invenergy solar plant located in Illinois (USA); in addition to the low carbon technology of Ohmium International electrolyzers.
This project is estimated to generate up to 52 tons per year (tpa) of hydrogen and will have the capacity to store up to 400 kg of hydrogen, to provide it to Invenergy’s 584 MW Nelson Power Center. Also, the loading capacity of the Sauk Valley will allow any excess hydrogen to be shipped and used off the generation site.
Sauk Valley Hydrogen, located in Nelson Township, Illinois, is Invenergy’s 21st development in the state. Invenergy, whose world headquarters are in Chicago, has added a fifth technology to its Illinois portfolio that already includes wind, solar and thermal generation; as well as advanced energy storage projects.
The new hydrogen project will begin construction in the coming months and is expected to be fully operational by the end of 2022.
