The Global Energy Alliance for People and Planet (GEAPP) has officially announced the launch of the India Future Grid Accelerator, a national platform backed by an initial investment of up to $25 million. The initiative aims to transform the country’s electricity system through digitization, integration of renewable energy and the development of large-scale energy storage solutions.
Leaders endorse network accelerator in Mumbai
The announcement was made during Mumbai Climate Week, with the participation of senior leaders from government, business and the philanthropic sector. Notable among them were Rajiv J. Shah (Chairman of the Rockefeller Foundation), Jayant Sinha (former Union Minister and Chairman of Eversource Capital) and Woochong Um, CEO of GEAPP.
India is entering a decisive phase of its energy transition, where access is no longer enough, but a reliable, flexible and scalable power system is required. This platform marks the step from pilots to large-scale deployments.

Electrical transformation for a sustainable future
The accelerator operated under the framework of the India Grids of the Future initiative, which aims to impact more than 300 million people by strengthening electricity distribution infrastructure. The program works with DISCOMs (electricity distribution companies) in Delhi and Rajasthan as the first cohort of “Champion Utilities”.
The strategic approach is structured under the D4 framework:
- D1: Digitization of networks using digital twins and advanced analysis.
- D2: Intelligent distribution of decentralized energy resources.
- D3: Democratization of electricity, empowering consumers.
- D4: Development of an energy innovation ecosystem.
The initiative plans to mobilize $100 million over the next three years (2026-2028) through partnerships between governments, private companies and philanthropic funders.
ENTICE 3.0: innovation in storage and digitization
The event also marked the launch of ENTICE 3.0the new edition of the Energy Transitions Innovation Challenge. This edition focuses on non-lithium lithium-free storage solutions and technologies to digitize large-scale electrical assets.
ENTICE 3.0 will directly connect startups with utilities, policymakers and investors, facilitating the rapid adoption of innovative solutions.
Commitment to the future of clean energy
With a presence in more than 30 countries, GEAPP works to eradicate energy poverty, reduce carbon emissions and improve livelihoods. Through its “Networks of the Future” initiative and its “Energy and Opportunity” pillar, the alliance seeks to create an electricity system that is more inclusive, modern and prepared for the challenges of the 21st century.
India, with near-universal access to electricity, is now focused on achieving clean and reliable energy abundance, setting a global precedent in grid modernization.
