Imerys and ENGIE strengthen long-term partnership following vPPA agreement in Europe

The agreement provides for the supply of 2 TWh through three new solar farms in Spain that will be operational between 2026 and 2027.
Un contrato estratégico entre Imerys y ENGIE

French utility Imerys has signed a decade-long Virtual Power Purchase Agreement (vPPA) with ENGIE, with the aim of supplying 24% of its European operations with electricity from renewable sources.

Strategic agreement between Imerys and ENGIE

This vPPA will enable Imerys to annually decrease nearly 70,000 tons of CO₂ equivalent in continental Europe. The company aims to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions by 42%. greenhouse gas emissions emissions by 2030, taking 2021 as a baseline.

In line with this commitment, the partnership with ENGIE strengthens its energy transition and the expansion of its global clean energy portfolio. clean energy .

With more than 85 PPAs signed in 2024 alone, ENGIE consolidates its presence as a strategic player in renewable electrification on the continent. Moreover, its integrated model allows it to address everything from infrastructure development to the financial structuring of tailor-made energy contracts.

For this project, it will design and operate solar farms exclusively to supply Imerys’ renewable demand.

The decarbonization of industrial processes remains one of the main challenges facing the mining sector. Imerys, which specializes in mineral solutions for industries such as automotive, pharmaceuticals and construction, is accelerating its sustainable strategy through regional clean energy contracts. This is the second large-scale agreement following its vPPA in the United States, which will supply 30% of its electricity consumption in that country.

The collaboration between the two companies is aligned with European climate neutrality commitments. ENGIE plans to reach 95 GW of installed renewable capacity by 2030 and is currently deploying around 7 GW per year. Imerys, for its part, continues to implement solar farms at its facilities in the United Kingdom, Asia and Africa, demonstrating a comprehensive vision of global decarbonization.
