The energy company Iberdrola has reached 70% progress in the development of the il-lumina plan, an initiative aimed at redesigning the electricity distribution network affected by the DANA. With an investment of 100 million euros, the project seeks to structurally improve infrastructures in the Valencian Community.

The redesign of the distribution and electrical network

This plan is being executed by i-DE, the group’s distribution company, and includes work on more than 450 transformer stations and the installation of 300 new medium voltage pylons. Work is also being carried out in some twenty substations, especially in industrial areas such as Quart de Poblet and Riba-roja, where the bases of the installations have been raised by more than one and a half meters.

On the other hand, the new infrastructures are being designed with criteria of resilience to extreme weather events and following advanced digitalization standards. It is also expected that some 650,000 consumers will benefit from a more robust network prepared for future weather emergencies.

The main objective is technical modernization, where Iberdrola has deployed a team of 35 professionals dedicated exclusively to the plan, coordinating close to 1,000 workers, mostly local contractors. Most of the work is being carried out without interrupting the electricity supply. power supply thanks to the use of portable generators and improvements in the scheduled outage notification systems.

At the institutional level, Iberdrola maintains collaborations with the Generalitat Valenciana and several city councils to facilitate the recovery of public areas and provide social support to affected families. These actions include agreements with the Red Cross and local entities to address aspects such as emotional well-being, the rehabilitation of educational spaces and the improvement of municipal facilities.
