The company Iberdrola has finalized the purchase of the Ararat wind farm in the state of Victoria, Australia. The facility has a capacity of 242 MW and becomes the company’s most significant generation asset in Australia to date.

With the integration of this wind complex, the organization now operates in five key states in the country: New South Wales, South Australia, Queensland, Western Australia and, now with owned assets, Victoria. The latter is the second most populous and the one showing the fastest economic momentum in the region, ensuring sustained demand.

Likewise, the rationale behind this investment is underpinned by solid revenue. A large portion of the electricity generated at Ararat is tied to long-term power purchase agreements (PPAs).

This model guarantees stable cash flows and shields the investment from wholesale market volatility. In addition, Victoria has an ambitious plan to source 95% of its power from clean sources by 2035, placing the owners of these infrastructures in an exceptionally advantageous position.

The firm is building a very deep network of technical influence. The recent move into electricity transmission through the VNI West project shows that the strategy is aimed at controlling both generation and interstate interconnection. This is the sixth major deal the group has closed so far this year, confirming that its top priority is to concentrate capital in markets with predictable regulatory frameworks and strong legal certainty.

Finally, the numbers speak for themselves: more than 2,500 MW of installed capacity across wind turbines, solar plants and battery energy storage systems.
