Hyundai Motor Group has successfully completed a hydrogen-powered mobility test in the Trojena Mountains, part of the NEOMS megaproject. NEOM megaproject megaproject in Saudi Arabia. In collaboration with Enowa, NEOM’s energy subsidiary, the Group demonstrated the efficiency of its fuel cell electric bus, the UNIVERSEThe UNIVERSE, facing slopes of up to 24% and altitudes exceeding 2,000 meters.
This operation, which simulated the transfer of passengers between NEOM’s central business district and Trojena, made it possible to evaluate the performance of FCEVs in demanding environments. The test also represents a concrete validation of the hydrogen infrastructure recently installed in the region by Enowa, with refueling stations stations adapted to multiple vehicle types.
The UNIVERSE electric bus on high-demand routes
The deployment of the UNIVERSE bus bus responds to the memorandum of understanding signed in September 2024 between Hyundai and NEOM’s mobility division, with the aim of developing hydrogen-based transportation solutions. This initiative is aligned with the strategic objectives of Saudi Vision 2030 and the global commitment to clean technologies.
During the pilot phase, carried out between October and December last year, the vehicle operated as a VIP transport at NEOM, accumulating key information on its behavior over long distances and extreme topography.

HTWO and the hydrogen economy push
The experience gained reinforces Hyundai’s position as one of the most active players in the promotion of hydrogen as an energy source. Through its platformmthrough its HTWOplatform, the Group seeks to expand an open network of collaboration, investment and deployment of hydrogen-based solutions, integrating production, storage and mobility.
With this demonstration, Hyundai and NEOM reaffirm their joint commitment to a decarbonized future and confirm the viability of clean technologies. clean technologieseven under challenging conditions. The partnership between Hyundai, Enowa and NEOM continues to lead the way towards a more robust and sustainable energy infrastructure in the Middle East.
