Helen Company has selected Sweco as its EPCM partner to carry out its first green hydrogen production plant. Hydrogen production is expected to start in 2026, with the intention of supplying this resource to the heavy transport sector. In addition, surplus heat from production will be used in Helen’s district heating network, which will increase the plant’s energy efficiency to more than 90%.

Continued construction of hydrogen production plant

The Helen company has maintained a close collaboration with Sweco for many years. The company has played the role of engineering, procurement and construction management(EPCM) partner on several heating and cooling plant projects. The new hydrogen facility, known as 3H2 Helsinki, represents Helen’s first investment in this sector and will be a pilot plant with a capacity of approximately three megawatts. pilot plant with a capacity of approximately three megawatts. .

“Sweco has vast experience acting as Helen’s consultant and EPCM partner, and we have joint operating methods that ensure smooth project execution. This successful collaboration now expands to include Sweco’s considerable hydrogen expertise, accumulated from numerous projects in Finland and Europe. It is great to continue working together to achieve Helen’s carbon neutrality goals as part of the ongoing ecological transition.”
