ECOsubsea has taken a major step in the maritime industry by introducing its Ultra High Efficiency Hull Cleaning Robot (UHEHCS) in Singapore. This launch was announced during the fifth Singapore-Norway Innovation Conference, fulfilling its commitment to offer affordable and effective green solutions.
Robot for cleaning hoofs
ECOsubsea’s powerful ROV has been extensively tested in the Singapore anchorage since August, showing capabilities that exceed expectations. According to Tor Østervold, CEO of ECOsubsea, “ we cleaned a fully loaded Capesize vessel, with a draft of 18 metres, in just four hours ” – ten times faster than conventional methods. And despite its advanced technology, ECOsubsea’s solution is affordable.
In addition to speed, the ROV operates in conditions where divers cannot , even with currents exceeding 2 knots, ensuring continuous and safe operation in challenging environments. This performance allows efficient cleaning of hulls during refueling, without the need to interrupt or prolong the stay in port.
This efficiency gap brings huge benefits in terms of time and cost.
added Østervold.
Alignment with Sustainability Goals
Golden Ocean’s Global Operations Director, Tord Brath, praised the ROV for its performance and safety, highlighting how this advanced technology promotes the sector’s sustainability goals. He also underlined that the use of this innovation contributes to greater operational efficiency by optimising cleaning times and reducing fuel consumption .
It is a visionary option for shipping companies.
Brath said.
Odd Arne Hansen, Harbour Master of Odfjell Tankers in Asia Pacific, highlighted additional benefits such as fuel savings, reduced emissions and low environmental impact thanks to the filtration of collected sediments.
Sustainability and Profitability Combined
The cost is comparable to current options, but without compromising safety or the environment.
explained Østervold.
The company has modified an Eng Hup Shipping vessel with an innovative ROV launch and recovery system, as well as a 75 cubic metre filtration unit. In its quest for a global network of ROVs, ECOsubsea has signed a contract with Eng Hup and already has more than 5,000 vessels registered for cleaning during the initial licensing phase.
