Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited(HPCL) has signed a preliminary liquefied natural gas(LNG) supply agreement with ADNOC Gas, the national gas company of the United Arab Emirates. This contract provides for the regular shipment of LNG for a period of ten years.

A decade of LNG supply by ADNOC Gas

The Indian company will receive the gas at the new Chhara terminal in the state of Gujarat, a facility within the country’s energy infrastructure. This entry point will facilitate supply to HPCL’ s own refineries as well as urban gas distribution(CGD) networks and other industrial customers.

The alliance with ADNOC Gas enhances India’s energy security in a global context marked by price volatility and geopolitical instability. Through this commitment, HPCL diversifies its contract portfolio, merging short- and long-term agreements that allow it to respond more agilely to domestic demand.

This agreement is also part of India’s energy transition roadmap, which seeks to improve the share of gas in its total energy mix. For its part, ADNOC Gashas consolidated its role as a reliable partner through its presence throughout the gas value chain.

The supply will start in phases over the next few months, in line with the full operation of the Chhara terminal, which has a regasification capacity of 5 million metric tons per year.
