Accelera, the clean energy division of Cummins, has marked a milestone in sustainable transportation by setting a GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS with its hydrogen fuel cell electric truck. This record-breaking time for the H2Rescue , an innovative zero-emission vehicle, is highlighted by the fact that it travelled an unprecedented distance of 1,806 miles without refuelling , underlining the potential of hydrogen for the future of clean transportation and portable emergency power.
How was the H2Rescue record achieved?
Equipped with an Accelera fuel cell engine and a 250 kW traction motor, the H2Rescue truck was monitored and validated by Guinness World Records experts. During the journey, the vehicle operated in temperatures of 60 to 80°F, reaching speeds between 50 and 55 mph.
The truck’s tank, which held 175 kilograms of hydrogen , was sealed before the start of the journey, of which only 168 kg was used . This clean trip avoided the emission of 664 pounds of carbon dioxide, compared to a similar combustion truck.
Features of the H2Rescue truck
The H2Rescue truck is designed for emergency applications and is capable of supplying power for up to 72 hours , making it an invaluable solution at disaster sites, shelters, and Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) operations.
Thanks to its design, this Class 7 truck, weighing approximately 33,000 pounds , eliminates greenhouse gas emissions, reducing pollution in heavy-duty applications such as freight transport and rail systems. In addition, the truck stands out for its extended range and significant load capacity, which allows for the supply of energy as well as the transport of essential equipment at disaster sites.
Alliance for hydrogen and clean transport
This achievement is the result of a strategic collaboration between Accelera, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Department of Energy (DOE) and Department of Defense (DoD). Partnerships like these drive innovation and support the growth of hydrogen technology , an energy that emits only water and steam as byproducts, providing a clean, quiet alternative.
The heavy-duty transportation industry is evolving toward clean energy solutions, and Accelera’s fuel cell technology offers range and fast recharge times for long-distance hauls . With this record-breaking test, Accelera reinforces its commitment to carbon-free transportation , adapting to a world that demands sustainability without compromising performance.
