Meta has announced a significant investment of $35 million to support carbon removal projects over the next year. This commitment is part of its strategic plan to achieve net-zero emissions across its entire value chain by 2030.
An approach to carbon removal
The initiative is part of the ” Carbon Dioxide Removal Purchasing Challenge ” proposed and launched by the US Department of Energy ( DOE ), which aims to catalyze carbon removal on a massive scale.
The latest report from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change ( IPCC ) underscores the need to simultaneously reduce emissions and remove carbon from the atmosphere. Committed to this vision, Meta continues to reduce greenhouse gas emissions across its global operations. To complement these efforts, the company will support carbon neutralization projects, both based on advanced technologies and natural solutions.
Meta’s effort is focused on achieving its own sustainability goal, while encouraging other companies to join the cause. The $35 million financial support will help emerging carbon capture technologies scale globally, reducing costs and accelerating their implementation.
