Gibraltar-based Gibdock Shipyard has completed the refurbishment of the Deep Blue, one of the most specialized vessels in TechnipFMC’s fleet for pipelaying and deepwater subsea and deepwater subsea construction work.
Deep Blue refurbishment in dry dock
The project, which was carried out at Gibdock Dock No. 1, included critical tasks such as steel refurbishment, pipe replacement, hull and tank cleaning and coating, as well as technical overhauls of machinery. To facilitate these operations, the Deep Blue was raised 3.7 meters and supported on 428 blocks, which allowed the Deep Blue to be disassembled and overhauled. This made it possible to disassemble and overhaul its eight thrusters.
The project involved more than 600 people working in continuous shifts. Both the Gibdock team and TechnipFMC personnel collaborated closely during all phases of the work, prioritizing safety and quality of execution. This operation was planned to ensure minimum downtime of the vessel, meeting the established deadlines and budget.
Technology at the service of offshore development
The Deep Blue is equipped with advanced pipe-laying technologies in reel, J and flex configuration. Its two reels have a capacity of 2800 metric tons each, allowing it to operate on projects at depths of up to 3000 meters. Its participation in subsea infrastructure works makes it a strategic asset for the deployment of energy networks in complex environments.
Gibdock’s regular customer TechnipFMC moved the vessel from the U.S. Gulf to Gibraltar, underlining the confidence in the shipyard’s technical capabilities. Following the successful completion of the project, the Deep Blue was mobilized outside Europe, reinforcing Gibdock’s international projection as a strategic partner for clients in the offshore sector. offshore sector.
Gibdock maintains an intense activity with shipowners from various segments, including self-elevating platforms, seasonal ferries, cargo and defense vessels. Its location at the entrance of the Mediterranean and the experience of its team position it as one of the most efficient ship repair and maintenance centers for offshore operations between Europe, America and Africa.
