With a length of 50 meters, a beam of 12.8 meters and a draft of 3.6 meters, the Thuwal II vessel will be able to accommodate up to 30 people on board. This model will have a modular design that will allow the laboratories to adapt to the changing needs of oceanographic research, integrating state-of-the-art marine technologies. In addition, its structure is prepared for the future incorporation of environmentally friendly propulsion systems, minimizing its carbon footprint in the Red Sea.
From KAUST have emphasized that the incorporation of the Thuwal II will strengthen the institution’s research capacity by facilitating advanced studies on biodiversity, current dynamics and conservation of marine ecosystems.
For Freire Shipyard it is an honor to contribute to the construction of a cutting-edge vessel such as the Thuwal II. This project symbolizes a joint commitment to scientific progress and innovation in marine research at an international level.
