HydroWing has signed a binding agreement with a subsidiary of state-owned power company PLN to develop Indonesia’s first tidal power plant . The 10 MW project will be located in East Nusa Tenggara and will harness the vast energy potential of the Indonesian archipelago’s ocean currents.

The project follows a Memorandum of Understanding signed in 2022, whereby both parties agreed to identify optimal locations and conduct technical assessments. Richard Parkinson, CEO of Inyanga Marine Energy Group , highlighted Indonesia’s attractiveness as a good market for tidal technology, due to its unique geography that enhances the flow of currents between the Pacific and Indian Oceans. “ This project in East Nusa Tenggara will be essential for our expansion in Southeast Asia ,” Parkinson added.

Inyanga Marine Energy Group ‘s commercial director, Jean-Christophe Allo, stressed that this project adds to its recent success in the region, after being awarded the construction of a similar plant in the Philippines. The collaboration with PLN means that the state-owned company’s subholding will carry out bathymetry studies, current measurements and environmental assessments. For its part, HydroWing will carry out the feasibility study and the operation and maintenance plans.
This tidal power project represents a step forward in Indonesia’s efforts to achieve net-zero emissions and promote energy security. By providing a clean and consistent source of energy, HydroWing’s plant will contribute to a sustainable transition and strengthen the power grid in the East Nusa Tenggara region.
