Worley has been selected by First Ammonia to perform the front-end engineering design (FEED) of an innovative ammonia power plant in Victoria, Texas. This facility, with an initial production capacity of 300 metric tons of ammonia per day , marks a significant milestone on the path to industrial decarbonization.
SOEC technology in ammonia power plant
The plant will be the first to use solid oxide electrolyzer (SOEC) technology for hydrogen production , an approach that improves energy efficiency by 30% compared to traditional electrolyzers. This advance reduces costs and opens the door to cleaner and more scalable production.
We are delighted to partner with First Ammonia on this innovative project. The plant is a critical step in delivering decarbonised energy solutions, and we look forward to supporting the success of the project.
I mention Marc Van Den Boom, Senior Vice President of Gulf Coast Operations, highlighting the importance of this project.
Integration of renewable energies
The plant’s design takes into account fluctuations inherent to renewable energy , playing a key role in stabilising the local power grid. This approach also supports decentralised and cost-effective production, aligning with global sustainability goals.
The FEED study is expected to be completed in the first quarter of 2025 , with plans to begin construction later this year. This project promises to not only boost the development of sustainable technologies, but also serve as a model for future initiatives around the world.
