The renowned Italian shipyard Fincantieri and the startup Defcomm have formalized a strategic collaboration to accelerate the development of unmanned surface drones, thus consolidating their leading role at the forefront of naval technology.
Development and deployment of unmanned surface drones
The partnership between the two companies focuses on co-investing to industrialize autonomous surface vehicles designed by Defcomm. These platforms were conceived for patrol, intelligence and surveillance missions, while having passed endurance and long endurance tests. In addition, they have the ability to operate in autonomous, remote and manual modes, offering strategic versatility for dynamic naval scenarios in demanding environments.
This agreement provides for the integration of these drones into naval units built by FincantieriThis will allow to offer complete solutions to both national and international customers. Interoperability and operational training are pillars of this collaboration, which seeks to prepare personnel to face complex scenarios through the use of high-precision autonomous systems.
With this step, the Italian company increases its commitment to innovation and industrial sovereignty. The agreement is an example of how cooperation with high value-added startups, such as Defcomm, can accelerate innovation processes in strategic sectors. This initiative is in line with the global trend of adopting dual-use technologies, adaptable to both the civil and military sectors.
Federico Zarghetta, a key figure behind Defcomm and an expert in naval automation, said that this collaboration represents the culmination of decades of work on unmanned solutions. For its part, Fincantieri consolidates its position as the core of the Italian naval ecosystem, betting on the internal development of critical capabilities that enhance national autonomy in the sector.
