A few days ago, the expansion works of the Kishorn port and dry dock began, with an investment of 42.2 million pounds sterling. The objective is to increase its operational capacity and turn it into a strategic hub for the manufacture of concrete floating foundations for offshore wind systems.

The Plan for the Expansion of Kishorn Port

The plan contemplates the expansion of the existing dry dock and the reclamation of adjacent land, allowing the development of an integrated area for maneuvering, assembly, and storage. This infrastructure will enable responding to the growing demand for components for floating wind farms offshore.

Thanks to the presence of a quarry on the same land, the port has a competitive advantage for the production of concrete structures. The initiative has already generated interest among players in the renewable sector, especially for decommissioning and floating construction operations.

The execution of the project will be carried out by the Scottish construction company RJ McLeod, with the support of specialized local firms such as Wallace Stone (civil engineering), Affric (environmental consulting), and Leapmoor (project management).

A significant part of the funding comes from Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE), which has committed up to 24 million pounds in support of the development. It is estimated that the work will generate 84 direct jobs during the construction process and that, once completed, the facilities could attract initiatives capable of generating up to 1,500 jobs.

In addition to its regional impact, the Kishorn port is positioning itself as a logistics platform for projects in the Celtic Sea and the Irish Sea, thus expanding its influence beyond northern Scotland.
