ESVAGT announces STB15 vessel for Hornsea 2 offshore wind farm

Since ESVAGT introduced safe transfer vessels, the industry has experienced a change in the way maintenance is performed at wind farms.

The STB15 transfer vessel was developed by ESVAGT in collaboration with OSK Design and Hvide Sande Shipyard. This development stands out from its predecessor, the STB12, with significant improvements in capacity, safety and adaptability to extreme conditions.

The design of the STB15 is performance oriented

The STB15 was designed to operate at the Hornsea 2 offshore wind farm. The structure allows the simultaneous transfer of more technicians and a greater amount of cargo, optimizing offshore service times. The new vessel surpasses the previous model in capacity, and incorporates technologies such as the GUS system, which allows technicians to be hoisted directly to the turbine platform without the need for traditional boarding.

On the other hand, integration of a stabilizer and interceptor system reduces motion both at rest and underway. This increases operator comfort, especially in rough seas, a common situation in the North Sea where Hornsea 2 is located.

ESVAGT has reiterated its confidence in the Danish shipyard Hvide Sande, which also built the STB12. Carl Erik Kristensen, CEO of the shipyard, emphasizes that the new vessel was designed based on the direct experience of seafarers. This collaborative approach ensures that the design of the new vessel responds to the real needs of the technical personnel on board.

Since ESVAGT introduced safe transfer vessels, the industry has experienced a change in the way maintenance is performed at wind farms. With the new transfer vessel, the company reaffirms its commitment to operational efficiency and the safety of technical personnel. The integration of the SOV concept and these new vessels expands the logistical possibilities at complex sites.
