Equinor obtains new drilling permit in the North Sea

The Norwegian Offshore Directorate has confirmed the granting of a drilling permit to Equinor Energy AS for wells 34/8-20 S and 34/8-20 A, located in production license 554 E in the North Sea. The role of the COSL Innovator platform

For this drilling, Equinor will use COSL Drilling Europe’s COSL Innovator semi-submersible rig, capable of operating at depths of up to 750 meters. Drilling is scheduled to commence in August 2025, on schedule and under a contract that provides for extensions.

Likewise, the license 554 E was granted in February 2023 with a term until 2030. Equinor leads the consortium with a 40% interest, accompanied by Vår Energi and Aker BP with 30% each, evidencing a strategic collaboration for offshore exploration in the North Sea.
