Eni announces 250MW hybrid power plant in Kazakhstan

The company is involved in major renewable energy projects in the country, with the aim of improving energy storage for its customers.

Eni and in collaboration with KazMunayGas(KMG) have begunconstruction of a hybrid power plant in Zhanaozen, Mangystau region, Kazakhstan. With a capacity of 250 MW, the facility will merge solar, wind and gas technologies to provide a steady, environmentally friendly source of electricity to KMG’s subsidiaries.

Eni and KazMunayGas to construct hybrid power plant

This Eni project promotes carbon footprint reduction and reveals its strategy of employing advanced technologies to improve the environment. This joint effort between Eni and KMG is a historic event as the first plant of its kind in Kazakhstan to use a hybrid approach to power generation.

Eni has had an established presence in Kazakhstan since 1992 and continues to expand its influence in the region. The company jointly manages the Karachaganakoil field and is involved in several projects in the northern Caspian Sea, including the Kashagan field. Through its subsidiary Arm Wind, part of Plenitude, Eni is also involved in renewable energy projects in the country, with an installed capacity of 150 MW.

This project will combine the most advanced renewable energy technologies with a gas-fired power plant. This combination guarantees stability in electricity production and capitalizes on Eni’s experience in the global energy industry, offering practical and efficient solutions to the challenge of the energy transition.
