The German company Energiequelle has officially started construction of a wind farm in the state of Thuringia, which will be located between the municipality of Werther and the rural town of Bleicherode. This new development has four Nordex N163 turbines and is expected to provide a total installed capacity of 27.2 megawatts.

This project is being implemented in collaboration with local partners Helmetal eG and FEUER powerair. Each wind turbine will have a hub height of 164 meters and a rated output of 6.8 MW, which will supply around 15,000 households with clean electricity and avoid the emission of approximately 37,000 tons of CO₂ per year.

The journey of the Werther/Wipperdorf wind farm started more than ten years ago. The official application was submitted in November 2022 under the Federal Emission Control Act(BImSchG) and received an approval in September 2024. Subsequently, the project was awarded in the tendering process for wind power in April 2025.

Construction activities are currently underway, with the foundation phase scheduled for April 2026. The turbines are expected to be operational as of January 2027.

Energiequelle’s project manager in Erfurt, Maria Löther, mentioned the commitment of local stakeholders throughout the process. “Some municipalities, landowners and our partners have shown exemplary patience. The start of construction validates the trust placed in this initiative,” she said.

For his part, Hans-Jürgen Weidt, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Helmetal eG, emphasized that the revenues generated will enable the refinancing of a community wind turbine, which reinforces the positive impact of the project at the local level.

This is the second wind farm Energiequelle is building in the state, following its previous deployment in Sömmerda. The company has announced that further wind constructions are planned to start in 2026, as part of its renewable energy growth strategy in Germany.

With this initiative, Energiequelle reaffirms its commitment to the German energy transition through the use of modern technologies such as the Nordex N163 platform, and strengthens citizen participation in the generation of clean energy.
