Endesa’s five solar plants in the Brovales cluster, located in Fregenal de la Sierra (Badajoz), have reached a new European standard in sustainability: they have become the first photovoltaic installations in the world to be installed in a solar power plant. photovoltaic facilities on the continent in the continent to obtain Envision certification.
What is Envision certification and why is it important?
This international recognition, developed by Harvard University together with the Institute for Sustainable Infrastructure, evaluates the environmental, social and economic impact of projects from planning to operation.
In this case, the Apicio, Beturia, Ardila, Cincinato and Nertóbriga plants have achieved Silver certification thanks to their commitment to the protection of natural habitats. protection of natural habitats, archaeologicalarchaeological conservation and their integration with the local community.
Sustainability in Endesa’s solar plants
From the beginning of the project, Endesa’s renewable energy subsidiary, Enel Green Power España, promoted pioneering environmental measures such as biodiversity monitoring plans and adaptation to the environment. In addition, training courses for residents were promoted, favoring local employment in clean energy.
The installations even allow the coexistence of agricultural and livestock activities among the solar panels. solar panelsfacilitating a model of shared rural development.
Integration with the cultural and social environment
Another aspect highlighted by the Envision system has been the protection of archaeological remains found in the area, which were duly documented and transferred to the archaeological museum in Badajoz. The early inclusion of local stakeholders in the design of the project was also valued, with participatory sessions to align the needs of the environment with the infrastructure.
This achievement consolidates Endesa as a European reference in sustainable infrastructure and strengthens Extremadura’s position as a key enclave for the development of renewable energies with social and environmental responsibility.
