Inspenet, June 23, 2023.
The National Commission for Markets and Competition (CMMC) has carried out inspections at the headquarters of Endesa and Naturgy as part of an ongoing investigation. According to sources close to these actions, it has been confirmed that the investigators have seized computer devices and material in various cities in Spain. Until now, the CNMC has stated that it cannot provide information on the inspections.
Why are these companies being investigated?
Some of these visits have taken place recently, while others have taken place in the past. Currently, it is expected to know the conclusions derived from these inspections; although the specific reason for them has not been revealed. It should be noted that on previous occasions, registrations in companies in the energy sector have been preceded by complaints.
Between November 28 and December 2, 2022, something similar happened when the CNMC carried out inspections at the headquarters of the oil companies Repsol, Cepsa and BP due to possible anti-competitive practices.
These inspections were carried out after a complaint filed by two independent associations of oil operators who considered the discounts offered on fuel abusive. It has not yet been confirmed whether a disciplinary file has been opened in the case.
Regarding the inspections carried out in the electricity distributors, the specific reason or complaints that motivated them have not been revealed. However, recently the actions of these distribution companies have been questioned, accusing them from certain sectors of hindering the connection of self-consumption facilities that do not belong to their business group.
Endesa and Naturgy: giants of the energy sector
Endesa and Naturgy are two important companies in the energy sector in Spain. The first was founded in 1944, it is an electric and gas company with a presence in both the national and international markets. For its part, Naturgy, formerly known as Gas Natural Fenosa, is a multinational company specializing in the distribution and sale of natural gas and electricity. Both companies play a crucial role in supplying energy to homes, businesses and industries in the country.
The inspections to which they have been subjected demonstrate the importance of supervision and regulation in the energy sector to guarantee competition and compliance with current regulations.
