Misk City and Emerge have sealed a long-term partnership that marks a firm step towards urban decarbonization. The agreement includes the installation of a solar photovoltaic plant plant on rooftops and carports, with the goal of supplying clean energy for two decades.

An urban model transformed by a solar agreement

The city, recognized for being the world’s first nonprofit city, takes a significant leap forward by integrating solar energy energy into its infrastructure. This advance consolidates its aspiration to obtain LEED certification and position itself as a benchmark in green urbanism in the Gulf region.

The solar installation will enable Misk City to significantly reduce its CO₂ footprint, aligning with the sustainability goals of the Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030. In addition, the initiative reinforces the city’s comprehensive approach to smart mobility, pedestrian accessibility and environmental management.

A turnkey project with international backing

Emerge, a joint venture between Masdar and EDF, will take on the project in its entirety, covering design, financing, construction and long-term maintenance. The contract model will allow Misk City to access renewable energy with no upfront investment, a strategy that has been key to Emerge’s regional growth.

David Henry, executive director of Misk City, stressed that the integration of clean clean technologies is a natural extension of the city’s philosophy. For his part, Omar AlDaweesh of EDF Group stressed that the agreement represents a real push towards a new urban narrative in the Kingdom.

Synergy between technology and sustainability

The partnership also demonstrates the potential for cooperation between Saudi institutions and international actors. By bringing together technical, financial and environmental capabilities, it creates a precedent for future similar initiatives in urban development in the region.

Founded in 2021, Emerge specializes in energy solutions adapted to diverse industrial and urban contexts, leveraging the global expertise of Masdar and EDF. This new installation strengthens its portfolio in Saudi Arabia, while contributing to the development of more efficient and resilient cities.
