Brazilian aircraft manufacturer Embraer has announced its plan to establish its first factory for electric horizontal takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft also known as “flying vehicles” in Taubaté, a city located in the interior of Sao Paulo, Brazil.
This will be the physical headquarters of Eve Air Mobility, a company controlled by Embraer whose shares are listed on the New York Stock Exchange and whose goal is to launch in 2026 a all-electric aircraft, with horizontal takeoff and intended for urban flights, characterized by its absence of polluting emissions and its low noise level (up to 90% lower than that of a helicopter).
“The place benefits from strategic logistics, since it has easy access through highways and its proximity to a railway,” Embraer said in a statement to the market.
According to information provided by the Brazilian aeronautical manufacturer, the new factory will also benefit from its proximity to Embraer’s headquarters in the neighboring city of Sao José dos Campos, where Eve Air Mobility’s engineering and human resources team already is working.
Francisco Gomes Neto, the CEO of Embraer, affirmed that this decision reinforces the company’s commitment to the potential of the global urban air mobility market and its objective of positioning Eve Air Mobility as one of the main companies in this sector.
In addition to continuing to develop its “flying vehicle” (eVTOL aircraft), Eve Air Mobility is also focused on creating a broad set of agnostic solutions, including unique Urban Air Traffic Management software, with the aim of optimizing urban air mobility operations around the world.
How much will it cost to ride the flying vehicles?
Although the company plans to launch its aircraft in 2026, Eve Air Mobility is expected to carry out the first test flights of the flying vehicle in 2024 .
The projected design for the aircraft is fully electric and works with batteries , being initially capable of transporting the pilot and up to four passengers over distances of up to 100 km.
Although they are still in the development phase, Eve Air Mobility already offers its flying cars commercially and has contracts to deliver approximately 2,000 units to around twenty customers. The initial price of the flights is estimated between 50 and 100 dollars per person.
