Egypt’s Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources announced the achievement of three strategic oil and gas discoveries, reinforcing its role as a regional powerhouse in hydrocarbons. The operations led by Khalda Petroleum Company, Petrobel and GUPCO have opened up new production prospects in both the Western Desert and the Gulf of Suez.

The potential of the new oil and gas wells

The Khalda Company made the South NUT-1 discovery in the western region of the country. According to preliminary reports, the Paleozoic formation showed an Al-Shifa sand layer with a net thickness of 253 feet. Initial estimates project reserves of up to 12.5 million barrels of oil equivalent, including gas and condensate. In addition to the technical evaluation of the well, Khalda is planning to install a 23 km production line production line to facilitate the exploitation of the resources.

On the other hand, Petrobel tested the West Feran-2 well in the Gulf of Suez. The drilling revealed a production potential of 2,660 barrels per day, a finding that reinforces expectations about Assal sands in the area. Analysis work is continuing to accurately define the associated reserves.

GUPCO reported on the GS327-A15 well at Karim Sands. This well showed an initial daily recovery of 720 barrels of oil per day, consolidating the interest in this specific area of the gulf.

These new discoveries underscore the Egyptian oil sector’s commitment to boosting exploratory drilling activities and maximizing production. According to Ministry officials, these developments are part of an active policy aimed at boosting foreign investment and optimizing domestic production capacity in the coming years.

The Ministry maintains its focus on generating synergies with national and international companies, with the objective of consolidating Egypt as a strategic energy hub in the region.
