Drydocks World has taken a decisive step in its modernization strategy by officially launching its Alnokhada floating crane, a 5,000-ton lifting unit that will significantly expand heavy lift capacity in the region.
Manufactured in collaboration with ZPMC Offshore, the crane has completed its primary construction phase and is now entering the outfitting stage, with a view to start operations in the second quarter of 2026.
A name with cultural roots and an eye to the future
Selected from more than 3,000 submissions in the United Arab Emirates, the name“Alnokhada” honors the traditional figure of the dhow captain, expertly and bravely guiding pearl diving expeditions.
The winning proposal, submitted by Kim Alfonso, connects the maritime legacy of the Gulf with the technical ambition of a crane designed to lead a new era of offshore and industrial and industrial projects.
Alnokhada floating crane and its capabilities
With a length of 138.5 meters, a beam of 52 meters and a main lifting capacity of 5,000 tons, Alnokhada will integrate Drydocks World’s heavy lift portfolio.
Its auxiliary range of 600 tons and operating radius of up to 180 meters allow it to serve complex naval assemblies and large-scale energy infrastructure components.
Regional projection and strategic impact
DP World authorities highlight Alnokhada as a key player in responding to the growing volume of projects in sectors such as oil & gas, renewable energy and offshore logistics.
Its deployment will consolidate Drydocks World as a reference in industrial cargo solutions in the Gulf, with the capacity to reduce delivery times and improve the efficiency of critical assemblies.
