Chinese lab unveils first hydrogen-powered multirotor drone with 100-kilometer range

The Tianmushan No. 1, a hydrogen-powered multi-rotor drone, has successfully completed its maiden flight in Hangzhou, China. This mobile drone has been developed by Tianmushan Laboratory, a drone that integrates a flight range of more than 100 kilometers and has the ability to operate in extreme cold conditions.

This device is equipped with a highly efficient hydrogen power system, the Tianmushan No. 1 drone uses fuel cells with an energy density of more than 1,000 Wh/kg, outperforming conventional lithium batteries.

Its lightweight design, due to the use of a carbon fiber fuselage, allows an empty weight of only 19 kilograms, while its maximum load capacity is 6 kilograms. An aerodynamic prototype allows for bold, fast and precise handling.

In addition to its technical performance, Tianmushan’s drone is the first hydrogen-powered drone in the world to incorporate an integrated parachute. This enhances and ensures a high level of safety of the device in case of failure during flight. Xu Weiqiang, chief designer of the project, mentioned that this drone addresses several key challenges of industrial UAVs, such as continuous long-distance operation and reliability in low-temperature environments.
