Velesto Energy Berhad has successfully completed the Special Periodic Inspection (SPS) of its NAGA 6 jack-up drilling rig on schedule at the Labuan shipyard. This recertification process, crucial for the operation of the rig, included everything from underwater inspection to the renewal of key systems such as the drilling rig and the zone management system.
Technological upgrade on the drilling platform
The works also included significant technological improvements, such as upgrading the pipe racking system and installing NOVOS hardware , reinforcing the platform’s operational capacity. These modernizations allow Velesto to maintain higher safety standards and also optimize the efficiency of future operations.
Megat Zariman Abdul Rahim, Chairman of Velesto, highlighted the significance of this achievement, noting that it was made possible through collaboration with local partners. “ This project underlines our commitment to excellence and to boosting Malaysia’s oil industry ,” he said.
The NAGA 6 rig is now ready to return to Sarawak and continue its contract with PETRONAS Carigali Sdn Bhd, which runs until February 2026. This contract reaffirms Velesto’s position as one of the leaders in drilling services in Southeast Asia.
