Masirah Oil Ltd has commenced a multi-well drilling campaign in the Block 50 field, located in Omani waters, with the Energy Emerger rig. This project is carried out using state-of-the-art and cutting-edge technologies for the works.

Energy Emerger platform projects

This venture kicks off approximately one month after Masirah Oil opted for the self-elevating Energy Emerger platform, owned by Northern Offshore to drill and complete the Yumna-5 well, in addition to performing maintenance work on two previously established production wells in the Yumna field.

The strategy behind drilling the Yumna-5 well is to take full advantage of the reservoir structure to extract the remaining oil that has not been accessible by current production methods. Following completion of work on Yumna-5, the Energy Emerger rig will move on to perform workover operations on the Yumna-2 and Yumna-3 wells as part of this extensive drilling program.

The Block 50 area, which spans some 17,000 square kilometers in the Gulf of Masirah in eastern Oman, has been the subject of intense exploration and development activities. Following the successful drilling of three exploration prospects near the Yumna field in April 2021.

Some production facilities were upgraded between February 2022 and April 2022, including the installation of a new floating storage tanker optimized to operate optimized to operate in the field for years without the need for drydock maintenance.
