Dongfang Electric Group has started production of its world’s largest 26 MW offshore wind turbine at its Offshore Wind Power Industrial Park in Fuqing, China. The turbine features a fully independent design and advanced technologies such as generators and control systems.
The first 26 MW offshore wind turbine
With a rotor diameter equivalent to 10.5 football fields and a height of 185 meters, this turbine can generate up to 100 million kWh annually, enough to power 55,000 homes. In addition, the unit adopts a fully sealed structure that prevents corrosion from salt spray, allowing it to operate reliably even in extreme conditions.
Dongfang Director Wang Jun said the new technology improves energy efficiency in high-wind maritime areas and reduces operation and maintenance costs. The turbine has the ability to withstand Category 17 super typhoons, proving its robustness and reliability.
This breakthrough reinforces China’s efforts to build a sustainable energy system and meet its carbon targets. Dongfang Electric has achieved other milestones, such as building the world’s first 10MW and 18MW offshore wind turbines, and continues to lead the development of innovative technologies for renewable energy.
