In an operation for Sarawak’s maritime infrastructure, DEME has started maintenance dredging work at the ports of Bintulu and Samalaju. This intervention is part of the contract awarded by Bintulu Port Holdings Berhad (BPHB) to the Malaysian firm HMN Nadhir Sdn. Bhd. which appointed DEME as a specialized subcontractor.
Maintenance dredging activities in Sarawak
The work is focused on restoring navigation depth and ensuring operational efficiency at two of East Malaysia’s most strategic terminals. This deployment includes trailing suction dredgers operating at both facilities, as well as the installation of floating and land-based pipeline systems to manage the extracted material.
Since its first intervention in Bintulu in 1995, DEME has maintained a constant involvement in the region’s port development. In this new phase, in addition to technical maneuvers, the company is running daily progress reports and validating hydrographic data to ensure accuracy at every stage.
The dredging also seeks to maintain the flow of industrial cargo and liquefied natural gas (LNG), which are critical to Sarawak’s economy. The operational continuity of these ports is essential for regional supply and the country’s logistical positioning in Asia.
