Trench excavation ensures cable protection

DeepOcean, a global provider of offshore services, successfully completed trenching operations and inter-array cable surveys for an offshore wind project in the United States. The work included inspection and protection of the cables connecting the turbines to the offshore substations, critical infrastructure for the long-term stability of the wind farm.

The contract was awarded by a global engineering, procurement, construction and installation (EPCI) provider specializing in the offshore wind industry. Mitchell Pike, managing director of DeepOcean’s Offshore Renewable Energy Division, noted that this scope of work reflects the company’s commitment to subsea services that optimize cable protection programs, reducing costs and risks for contractors and end clients.

State-of-the-art technology for subsea operations

To execute the project, DeepOcean deployed a trench support vessel (TSV) and the UT-1 subsea jet trencher, recognized as the world’s most powerful in its class. This free-flying technology has a proven track record of successfully burying thousands of kilometers of subsea cables and pipelines in a variety of challenging seabed conditions around the globe.

The UT-1 enabled efficient operations in complex subsea conditions, demonstrating DeepOcean’s technical capability in trenching and seabed intervention. Tony Stokes, general manager for the Americas region, said the experienced team and state-of-the-art technology ensured a safe and efficient campaign, contributing to the overall success of the operation.
