Energy Dome, a pioneer in long-duration energy storage solutions, has announced a landmark contract with Alliant Energy to bring its innovative CO2 battery to the US market .
This project, known as the Columbia Energy Storage Project, represents a critical step in the transition to cleaner, more reliable energy , supported by an award of up to $30 million from the U.S. Department of Energy .
What does the Energy Dome CO2 battery offer?
The CO2 battery will offer a capacity of 20 MW/200 MWh , enough to power 18,000 homes for 10 hours on a single charge. This development underlines Energy Dome and Alliant Energy’s commitment to providing affordable and sustainable energy solutions while ensuring grid stability.
Claudio Spadacini, CEO of Energy Dome, expressed his enthusiasm for this collaboration:
Our partnership with Alliant Energy is not just a technological breakthrough, but an opportunity to transform the way we store and manage energy. We are ready to make a significant difference in the American energy sector.
For his part, Raja Sundararajan, Executive Vice President of Alliant Energy, highlighted the importance of this agreement:
Energy Dome’s CO2 battery was selected after a rigorous evaluation of the best available technologies. It is a scalable and efficient solution that will ensure clean and reliable energy for our communities.
Columbia Energy Storage Project
The Columbia Project will not only boost the adoption of renewable energy, but will also serve as a model for other electric utilities interested in reducing their carbon footprint . Energy Dome will use its experience building the first CO2 battery plant in Sardinia, Italy, as a foundation for the successful implementation in Wisconsin, ensuring that the process is smooth and efficient.
As construction progresses in Sardinia and prepares for completion in 2025, the same technology will be adapted to the needs of the United States, positioning Energy Dome as a leader in long-term energy solutions. This modular and standardized approach facilitates replication and optimization of results.
