China strengthens its leadership in renewable energy with the launch of the largest and most powerful floating wind turbine on the planet. From Fuqing, Dongfang Electric and China Huaneng celebrate the production start-up of an offshore wind turbine. offshore wind turbine designed to operate in extreme conditions and power some 40,000 homes a year.

The world’s largest floating wind turbine

Specifically, the rotor of this offshore wind platform reaches 262 meters in diameter, which allows it to sweep an area equivalent to more than seven soccer fields. Likewise, the height of its hub is around 152 meters, comparable to a 50-story building. These dimensions give it an exceptional capacity to take advantage of winds in deep waters.

On the other hand, the applied technology stands out for its resilience: it can continue to generate electricity while withstanding waves exceeding 24 meters and category 17 typhoon winds. Its intelligent stabilization system ensures operational continuity even on steep inclines.

Even more relevant is its national technological profile. This large-capacity marine turbine This large-capacity offshore turbine employs key components manufactured in China, such as large-diameter bearings, blades, generator and transformers, reinforcing industrial self-sufficiency. The research team achieved breakthroughs in coupling simulation and high-fidelity model testing, consolidating China’s ability to lead offshore wind development.

This floating wind turbine opens the door to the exploitation of wind resources in deep waters, where much of the global potential is concentrated. The next phase will be to validate its performance in real scenarios in Guangdong.
