In a high-precision operation, Boskalis’ Forte vessel has completed the installation of Gallaf GE’ s central processing platform (CPP) in the Al Shaheen field, located in Qatari waters. The operation was carried out using the Dynamic Positioning (DP) flotation system, a technique that allows for highly accurate placement of heavy structures in offshore locations.
Slip method for offshore platform installation
The Forte vessel placed the top of the platform, which weighs 17,818 tons, between the legs of the pre-installed jacket. Through the vessel’s ballasting process, the top was able to mate with the jacket structure. The precision of this process has been key to ensuring the stability of the platform in complex sea conditions.
A notable feature of this operation was the use of the sliding method to load the top of the CPP. This process consisted of laterally “sliding” the topside from the quay to the deck of the vessel using a rail system, a maneuver that was carried out at the HOC shipyard in South Korea. This project represented the heaviest cargo ever to be transferred to the Forte vessel using this method, marking an achievement in the operational experience of Boskalis.
Second successful installation of 2024
This is not the first floating PD installation s floating installation in 2024. Earlier in the year, it completed a similar operation in the Jerun A field in Malaysia. These operations reinforce Boskalis’ expertise and leadership in the transportation and assembly of complex offshore oilfield marine infrastructure.
With a track record of more than a century, Boskalis continues to demonstrate its ability to meet the challenges of maritime projects. maritime projects. Its specialization in heavy lift and its advanced fleet of vessels allow it to carry out complex operations such as the one carried out in the Al Shaheen field, reaffirming its position in the offshore services industry. offshore services industry..
