The company BW Group announces the vessel BW Borealis and assigned the charter contract, commencing operations with Equinor. Following its departure from Hanwha Ocean‘s Okpo shipyard in South Korea, this advanced vessel formally initiated its long-term agreement on March 4, 2026.
The Charter Contract and LNG Transportation
The design of this vessel prioritizes sustainability without sacrificing capacity. With a cargo volume of 174,000 cbm, the BW Borealis integrates ME-GI propulsion and an advanced reliquefaction system that position it at the forefront of industry efficiency.
Additionally, the inclusion of shaft generators and ALS technology enables minimal fuel consumption levels, which is essential for companies seeking to lead the transition toward a lower-carbon economy.
The delivery of this unit follows in the footsteps of its sister vessel, the BW Nivalis, and confirms the excellent relationship between the Korean shipbuilder and the shipowner. The vessel’s name, which evokes northern regions, perfectly symbolizes the destination and nature of the operations it will perform for Equinor.
