With an installed capacity of 300 megawatts, this solar plant is the beginning of a new era for utility-scale renewable energy in the southwestern United States.

BrightNight and Cordelio Power’s Strategic Partnership

The development was led by BrightNight, a clean energy technology company, in partnership with Cordelio Power and the Southwest Public Power Agency(SPPA). This alliance achieved a commercially operating system in just 18 months and is part of a larger portfolio of 2.5 gigawatts planned for Arizona.

According to a study by Elliott Pollack and Associates, the construction phase of the project generated US$47 million in the local economy and more than 300 jobs. In addition, the operation of the plant is estimated to bring in another $134 million through property taxes, salaries and services. Over its lifetime, the project will provide more than $180 million in economic benefits to the region.

An essential element of the project is the allocation of more than $65 million in land lease payments to the Arizona State Land Trust. These funds will benefit public schools, hospitals and other essential services. In addition, resources will be allocated for technical scholarships at Central Arizona College, focusing on electrician training.

The solar project project is designed to generate more than 900,000 MWh per year, enough to supply energy growth in sectors such as manufacturing and data centers. BrightNight has highlighted this initiative as an example of the potential of its 35 GW portfolio to meet the growing demand for stable, clean energy in high-growth regions.

We are pleased to partner with SPPA to meet their energy needs in a vibrant region experiencing rapid industrial growth and expansion of its digital infrastructure.

With projected annual production of more than 900,000 MWh, the Box Canyon Solar Project will provide reliable, clean and affordable power for more than 40 years, generating local revenue, driving continued economic growth in the region and creating skilled U.S. jobs.
