Brazil reached a new record in hydrocarbon production by 2023, with a daily average of 4.34 million barrels of oil and natural gas equivalent , as revealed by the National Oil and Gas Agency (ANP). This achievement represents an increase of 11.7% compared to the previous record recorded in 2022, which was 2.94 million barrels per day.
The National Oil and Gas Agency (ANP) highlighted that, for the first time, the average annual production of the aforementioned country has exceeded 4 million equivalent daily barrels. This increase in production was reflected in both oil, with an increase of 12.6%, and gas, with an increase of 8.7%.
New oil and gas production record
Specifically, crude oil production reached 3.4 million barrels per day , while gas production reached 150 million m 3 per day . In December of the same year, the country recorded a production of 4.5 million barrels of oil and natural gas equivalent per day.
Production in the pre-salt, an exploration area in deep waters of the Atlantic Ocean, has reached historic levels with 3.3 million barrels per day, representing 75.2% of Brazil’s total production. This area is perceived as a perspective to position the South American country as one of the main global exporters of hydrocarbons, having experienced an increase of 9.1% compared to 2022.
Likewise, the Tupi field, the most significant within the pre-salt, contributed significantly by representing 25% of national crude oil production, with an average of 832 thousand barrels per day.
