BP Trinidad and Tobago ( bpTT ) is advancing its upstream expansion strategy with the approval of the Ginger project and the discovery of gas at the Frangipani exploration well . These developments promote the growth of natural gas production in the region and strengthen bp’s commitment to the global energy market.
The Ginger Project Strategy
The Ginger well is bpTT’s fourth subsea project and is located approximately 80 kilometers off the southeast coast of Trinidad. This development will include four subsea wells interconnected with the company’s Mahogany B platform . Drilling of the first well began last January, and gas production is expected to begin in 2027.
With a maximum capacity of 62,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day ( boepd ), the Ginger project will be an important pillar in bpTT’s strategy to maximize the use of existing infrastructure and minimize investment in new projects.
In parallel, the Frangipani exploration well has proven successful. Drilling identified several gas reservoirs clustered within a single geological structure. Options are currently being evaluated to advance the exploitation of these resources, which add to expectations of increased gas production in the region.
Both projects, Ginger and Frangipani , are part of bpTT’s strategy to maximize gas production in the region, making the most of its existing infrastructure. These developments will strengthen bpTT’s production capacity and contribute to the energy stability of Trinidad and Tobago and the global gas market.
I’m proud to announce these two milestones. With Frangipani, our goal was to demonstrate that our continued progress in exploration and evaluation could open up new deposits and investment opportunities for the region.
And Ginger’s approval represents our commitment to continue developing the resources on our current acreage and producing the gas that Trinidad and Tobago, and the world, needs.
David Campbell, President of bpTT.
In addition to these advances, bpTT continues to expand its global presence , with significant developments in Egypt and other regions. The success of Ginger and Frangipani builds on the company’s achievements in recent months, consolidating its position as a leader in the energy industry.
