The Spanish company bound4blue has installed the world’s largest eSAIL sails on the MV Atlantic Orchard , a vessel chartered by Louis Dreyfus Company ( LDC ). These suction sails, reaching 26 meters in height, will optimize the vessel’s energy efficiency, allowing it to reduce fuel consumption and emissions by 10%, according to initial estimates.

The sail installation on the MV Atlantic Orchard took less than a day per unit at the Astander shipyard in Santander, Spain. This process was quick and meticulously planned, ensuring that the vessel benefited from the advantages of wind propulsion immediately, with the least possible downtime.
The bound4blue eSAIL system has been designed to be completely autonomous, requiring little human intervention. This technology helps reduce polluting emissions and offers an economically viable path to greener shipping. With a payback period of less than five years, eSAILs can be installed on a wide variety of vessels, from bulk carriers to oil tankers, regardless of size or age.
The installation of the MV Atlantic Orchard is part of a series of successful projects bound4blue has implemented this year, with clients such as Maersk Tankers and Eastern Pacific Shipping , underscoring the growing adoption of wind propulsion in the industry. The technology has been evaluated by experts and has proven effective in helping companies comply with regulations such as FuelEU Maritime , as well as generating fuel consumption savings.
